Silver City

I've mentioned it a great deal in my article about Seal Key, but Silver City is one of my favourite places to go on the planet. The beautiful colours matched with the gorgeous architecture make for one of the most breathtaking places to visit.

History

One of the oldest settlements on the planet, as my sources tell me, Silver City was founded in the year 133. Back then most people hated dragons and sought to kill them all, which greatly stunted the development of the city. At its beginning the settlement was just a mere village, with a population barely reaching more than a hundred.

Around the year 150 the settlement's main export was fish and other marine animals, that they fished up from the Southern Bay on the south coast of Seal Key. The money and resources that these materials brought in would help Silver City advance rather fast, especially compared to other settlements on the neighbouring islands.

At some point in history, I cannot pinpoint it exactly, the residents of Silver City came into contact with a particularly valuable resource, known as elletrium. To the people of Dracosei, elletrium is some alien metal, as it is practically unbreakable and a gorgeous turquoise colour that no other metal on the planet is. The elletrium was found deep underground within the Rocky Peaks and quarries were imemdiately set up to mine as much as possible. However, instead of selling the elletrium for profits, the people of Silver City chose to use it in their architecture, and continue selling their fish and other marine animals.

For over a thousand years, Silver City continued to develop and grow, after closing itself off from other civilisations. They no longer needed to rely on trading, so they closed off all trade routes and became a completely self-sustaining settlement. Any food they needed they grew or hunted, materials were harvested from the plentiful island, and life was great for everybody in the city.

About a hundred years ago, Silver City reopened itself up to the world. To this day, they still don't trade with other settlements, but visitors are more than welcome and are actually encouraged. The inhabitants of the city treat visitors like royalty, as they really stand out. I will never forget my first time visiting the city, I was immediately greeted by several people and they took me on a little tour around the city centre.

"So, what's your favourite part about living here?
"I really enjoy all of the colours. The blues and greens of all the buildings make me feel happy."
— Jerna interviewing a citizen of Silver City.

Architecture

Silver City's architecure is immediately recognisable, as it is literally the only settlement on the planet that uses elletrium. This metal is malleable, and is bent into smooth curves and twists that form interesting designs for buildings. The roofs are almost always a hemispherical or onion dome, with spikes galore, and while it is cool, it is slightly terrifying knowing that one day one of those spikes could snap off and jab someone walking on the street.
Seal Key

Location, Geography & Climate

Location

If you don't fancy admiring my fantastic mapping skills, then I suppose just read this little bit of information. Silver City is located on the south coast of Seal Key, an island just north of the Equator. It sits atop Silver Headland, just west of Southern Bay.

Geography

Silver City has a magnificent view of the coastline, which it takes advantage of and advertises it to tourists. There is a slow incline from the north to the south of the city, as it progresses up the headland. Overall, the city is very flat compared to other parts of the island. For example, just north is the Rocky Peaks, to the east of the city and northeast in the island are extremely hilly areas.

Climate

It's pretty chilly in Silver City, which is weird considering it's so close to the Equator. The temperature is usually about 5℃, the highest I've ever seen it was 20℃ and the lowest -10℃.

Landmarks & Important Buildings

Saviour's Tower

Saviour's Tower was built in honour of the mythical saviour Jaren III, who slayed a city-sized dragon according to Maerkhorian mythology.
The tower is the third tallest in Silver City, and with a 50 foot tall spike on top, it is very noticeable. The building is a perfect circle shape, with several floating rings around the tower that serve as gardens, attracting a large amount of wildlife including several nature dragon species.

Milo's Cafe

This cafe is the best in the city, and is the most important landmark to me. Nestled between a tattoo parlour and an ice cream shop, Milo's Cafe serves the most incredible drinks to brighten your morning. The cafe opens at 4am, closes midday, to encourage people to wake up earlier and make the most of their days. I've been there so much during my stays at Silver City that Milo recognises me, and I even get discounts on my favourite drinks: frogfin tea and salt coffee.

S.C.D.R.C.

I guess they couldn't find a shorter name. The Silver City Dragon Research Centre, or S.C.D.R.C. for "short", is a large facility in the centre of the city with the intention of studying dragon species. Thanks to being a highly renowned Travel Scholar, I have access to some of the data the S.C.D.R.C. have collected, and have permission to distribute it in my writings. The facility is massive as well; they have several dragons in their collection, with massive gardens to live and roam in.
