Climate

Dark and stormy nights, gloomy and foggy days; the rain falls in torrents, except at occasional intervals, when it is checked by a violent gust of wind which sweep up the streets, and alleys, rattling along the house-tops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness. Either that or, day and night is obscured by a heavy fog and mist spooky-grey, lifeless and motherless. It grasps at the the waves and waters edge, moves on to enclasp everything, buildinngs, trees, and all landscape. When the rain joins it seemed mist-like also as it comes down in thin sheets.
