Seara

History

The Seara is a desert in northern Fripperland which rest in the shadows of the mountains of Buluragia. It spreads out to the north into the arid coastal plains, and is flanked to the west by the rugged highlands of the Sirdahi of Aeshrya. To its south, however, it opens up via a relatively small mountain pass into the Endless Sands. From here it serves as northern Fripperland's main access to the south of the continent.   Historically, the Seara was populated by the Nassuri, who roamed it as herders and traders, although settled villages certainly existed. Even though it was a risky lifestyle, many of the Nassuri made attempts to bring goods out from the southern desert and jungles and back to the north where they would fetch great prices. With the discoveries of fossil fuels and uranium deposits in the modern era, a similar drive to exploit the region has developed. However, due to its inhospitability, the slightly more livable Seara yet again serves as one of the main launching points of commerce.

Geography

The Seara, flat as it is, has little in the way of natural defenses. However, its arid climate and lack of resources has historically made it a place which is difficult to hold, as the many rulers of the Aeshryan empires have learned. The desert swallows logistics, and armies, whereas it shelters its own kin. This has left the most viable form of political union to be a confederation of tribes agreeing to some sense of unity- usually around a religious leader.
