Guild Leader

Guilds may have any number of lesser ranks, from peons to guild executives, but all require a leader. This person will provide direction for the guild in all activities. They will ensure members have quests or duties to perform. They will have final approval of all guild rank increases. They have the opportunity to direct some portion of resources in thier guild to personal interests. This can vary between creation of a new product that benefit the guild, to retreival of a rare magic item or reagent for perosnal use. Some will be heavily involved with daily activities and potentially even quest with other members. Others will lead from the shadows, only disbursing guidance and requests, little more than a guiding voice.   The major guilds include adventuring guilds, craft guilds, and syndicates. These organizations all operate similarly and have a similar position in the Leader.

The Guild Leader will be experienced within the guild. They have completed many quests and have advanced training to earn their rank and reputation.

Generally, when a current Guild Leader retires or dies, there is guild-wide vote for the next Leader. It must be a Guild Hero or equivalent rank within the organization. Some organizations have variations to this method, Crime Syndicates may involve more betrayal, Craft guilds may have a contest to be eligible for the ballot, etc.

Responsibilities

The Guild Leader is responsible for continued success and growth of the guild. They must ensure new members are recruited, old members are retained, quests and tasks of appropriate skill are delegated, and above all, make sure the political and social standing of the guild remains strong. This often includes lobbing, making deals with politicians, and earning respect from local influential individuals (Leader of the Guard, richest city dweller, local traders, etc.)

Benefits

There is typically a substantial income associated with the position. There are also political and social perks, too. This leader is generally viewed highly favorably within near and far political and social circles.

Accoutrements & Equipment

Almost all guilds have some distinguishing weapon or item that is worn or carried by the Guild Leader at all times. A Crime Syndicate may have a unique posionous dagger, and armorer's guild may have an exquisite ornamental set of armor, an adventurers guild may have a talisman or jewel.
