Relic Seeker's Order

This adventerer's guild was once a prominent and popular guild. However, as interest and even belief in the Relic has waned, so has this guild’s power. Now they are just seen as an adventurer’s guild that believes in chasing fairy tales. They have however, built up a considerable repository of knowledge and network of contacts. While they don’t command the attention and power they once did, many of the contacts are nevertheless good friends with the long-standing members of the guild.

The Order's Rules-

Insert rules guidelines here.

The Order's Members-

There is one guild leader, Belton Peabody, an aging gnome who has attempted to unravel many clues about the Relic in his years as guildmaster. Somewhat fanatical in his devotion to the artifact, he is loath to discuss any other topic except dancing. While rather rotund and not a capable dancer, he invented a dance, which goes by the same name as him, for everyone to enjoy. When he was young he traveled across the continent in search of clues. While his traveling days are over he retains much of the knowledge and history that he learned during his youth. Some of it is written in a thick journal, stashed in the Order's archives.   Most members do not dwell in the guildhall, instead actively seeking clues and information about the Relic. Even though there are few members of this guild, they are spread out all over the continent and often know where to access specific information. Members receive a bandana with the Relic Seekers Order logo stitched into it. It can be worn over the face, around an arm, or attached to a bag as the wearer desires (or hidden, if needed).

Patron Benefits-

  • Accommodations- 5 renown- guild members may stay at the guildhall free of charge. Rooms are equivalent to a modest lifestyle.
  • Dues- 5 renown- there is a yearly fee of 10 gp per guild member.
  • Information- 5 renown- guild members can learn about common or open quests. Often bounty hunter quests or quests to kill a specific beast of the wilds.
  • Storage- 25 renown- can store items in the vault of the guildhall, which is just a series of portable holes and bags of holding.
  • Dangerous Quests- 50 renown- Other quests, especially less reputable, including assisination, thievery, and guild specific quests.
  • Tool Proficiency- 50 renown- spend 2 weeks in downtime with intensive training to gain proficiency in either the cartographer’s tools or a gaming set (DM’s choice). Keep this proficiency only as long as you maintain 50+ renown.
  • Downtime benefits- 50 renown- guild heroes can benefit from downtime at the guild and receive a +2 score beneficial to whatever their downtime activity is. They must spend part of this time carousing with or involving other guild members
  • Guild Hero- 75 renown- You can now direct some guild efforts, especially for tasks that require a larger number of attendees, i.e. raids. Or if you need to hire someone to get something or finish a small task (no charge to the party). Subject to the approval of the Guild Leader. During larger raids, you are considered in charge and get to decide how to split loot, etc.
  • Guild Leader- 100 renown- You become in charge of the direction of the guild. You can direct a certain % of guild members to look into other quests for you. (you can pay with guild funds.) See Eberron Pg 67 for adventure ideas. All guild related expenses are paid for. You can acquire any simple materials through the efforts of the guild (jewelry, ore, wood, stone, etc.). You can use guild funds/personnel to pay for personal projects, quests, etc.
(Note- renown system still a work in progress, exact details to earn renown and increase rank is still to be determined.)

Structure

There is a clear Guild Leader and typically 4-5 Lieutenants. They run daily operations to maintain their archive, send members on quests/investigations, and sustain positive relations with powerful or influential individuals and organizations. There is also a Guild Librarian at the guild headquarters in Caligo. Their title gives them de-facto power over almost every other member. Remaining members are typically just known as members. While there is no official ranking, there are clearly members with more knowledge, power, and influence.

Culture

The core belief of the guild is to seek more knowledge and to explore more land to hopefully uncover the Relic, or at least learn more about the legend of the Relic.

Assets

There is a sizeable wealth of gold and jewels from adventuring and dues, but most of the value of the organziation comes in the intangible forms of knowledge and influence. A large library, rivaling all but the largest libraries at universities houses books, tomes, and other secrets. Some are one-of-a-kind and found only in this library. Most members are not interested in wealth or gold, so this guild has a rather moderate budget and cash flow.
