Kwalu O'Besi
Captain of the fishing boat The Fin & Tonic. He fishes in the waters around the mouth of the River Soshenstar along with his nephew, Malik O'Besi, and crew including Blackbird and Eryk.
Kwalu is a kindly man, happy in his simple job, but considering selling the boat as trade is shrinking, and he's getting old. He encourages Eryk to seek out an exciting adventurous life worthy of his strength.
When the boat is attacked by Yuan-Ti, he manages to get the crew plus some Grippli safely back to Port Nyanzaru, although the boat sinks, they are saved by The Sexiles.
