Malthus
A glistening desert world made of rock, cobalt and chrome, it can often be beautiful, but the metallic dust that blankets the surface slowly poisons any who call it home. As such the Imperium deemed it a penal world, and the prisoners of the sector were shipped to it in vast quantities to die in servitude. The fate of countless generations was thus to live and die enslaved, unable to rebel due to a lack of resources and the iron fist of the 11th Tellian Company.
However, following their great failure, the surviving Angels Arisen occupied the planet, slaughtering the militarum company in the name of their dark divinity and taking the enslaved populace for themselves. This gave many slaves the opportunity to revolt, and so they fought for their lives against the chaos astartes.
This conflict continued for years until Forneus, the Chaos Lord of the Angels Arisen, forged a pact with the Warpfire Crucible. This would prove to be a fatal error, however, as it inadvertently turned the planet into a target for the fleets of the Warmaster Harkor. Thus the Warmaster swiftly came to bombard the planet, allowing one of the slave warbands to slip into the capital and assinate the traitor-lord, leaving the planet in the hands of the Warmaster’s forces.
During these conflicts, the planet became a world of strife, as hundreds of warbands scavenged the deserts for supplies, planned insurrections in the cities, sabotaged the forces of chaos, or summoned dark gods for succour and favour. However, a decade after the victory of the Angels Arisen, a coalition of Aeldari forces arrived and besieged the world. The defences of Malthus were swiftly breached, but the xenos did not wish to claim this world. Instead, they used the fleet of the Sons of Avalon to perform an exterminatus upon the world, destroying all life on the blue dunes.
