Fantasy Fluoride

The dwarves of the Revered Kingdom of Undertop are amongst the most innovative beings in Kahmarak. They are known for designing and creating incredible engineering marvels, most of them involving living underground, or miming. They have discovered gems, fossils, precious metals and more while digging into the ground beneath their ancestral home.   Living underground means the dwarves have to live surrounded by fungus, lichens, mold, moss, and mushrooms. This is a result of living in a place that is cool, dark, and moist.   While digging in their mines, some dwarves noticed that there were certain areas that seemed to be "dead zones" for mold and moss. Being the inquisitive beings they are, they reported their findings to their society's Scientific Division, to see if they could perform an analysis and determine a cause.   It turns out that there were deposits of a certain as-yet-unnamed mineral that appeared to be inhospitable to mold and moss. Extensive analysis revealed that this mineral had a natural ability to interrupt the formation and growth of bacteria.   The dwarves identified the material and named it "Dannameade." They took this material, bround it into a powder, and sprinkled it anywhere they didn't want mold or moss to grow. Machinery stayed clean and stair steps were no longer slippery.   One dwarf had an epiphany in his sleep one night. He took some of the powdered mineral, mixed it with a few other substances, and rubbed it onto his teeth. It had the desired effect; bacteria did not grow on his teeth.   His invention was a huge hit. Dwarven dental specialists took his invention and refined it into a solution safer and much more palatable than the prototype.   Now, hundreds of years later, the dwarves of the Revered Kingdom of Undertop all live with surprisingly good dental health. And, since they have less plaque on their teeth, their heart health is better, too.   Say "Cheese!"
