School

The culture of this organization is formed around an institution designed to study and instruct the development of Scientific Magic and Engineering. It exist to collect and pass on knowledge, as well as evaluate the worth and certify its members. Bonds surround teacher-student and colleague-to-colleague relationships.

Treasure

While the history and politics are more complicated than the IDSME will admit, they take pride, credit and ownership for the location in the desert where Pierre Belmondo completed the first magical, anti-gravity vehicular flight in history. This revisionist narrative is propagated by the Overtel corporation.

Love of Knowledge

The IDSME loves the idea that knowledge builds the future. Before their partnership with Overtel, they may have said that knowledge gives people purpose. However, it could be argued that they now take the stance that it "makes people useful."

In order to keep and store records of their knowledge, the IDSME partners with knowledge domain priests, clerics and other Deneir practitioners who maintain the great libraries of Kai. They broker and deescalate conflicts that may arise between Celestial and Infernal religions differences.

The school attempts to make their knowledge available to everyone willing to learn. However, the practice of scientific magic is both expensive and wasteful. Anyone who chooses to learn is welcome at the institute, and governments and corporations alike provide funding to help more students complete their certification.

Relationships

The IDSME is fascinated with the the Order of the White Rose. While the IDSME’s curriculum has been criticized at times for its narrow focus, there are significant portions of staff and faculty who see a great potential in studying biology, botany, and other magical components of the natural world. The White Rose’s deep knowledge and ongoing mastery of gardens, plants and green-space offers potential new frontiers along the path of scientific magic.

Certain individuals have attempted to make connections and collaborate with the White Rose, with little success. A few members of the IDSME have even left the school to try and become Talona priests in hopes of joining the order.

The IDSME frequently works with the Overtel corporation. Overtel hires large numbers of their graduates, makes some of the largest bids for top talent, and is a significant financial benefactor.

It could be argued that Overtel benefits more from the relationship. The return on investment is tremendous for Overtel, and their demand has pushed the IDSME to prioritize curriculum and resources to produce more graduates for their company.

Scouts, delegates, and higher-ups from Overtel make routine visits to the IDSME. They keep a close eye on their “investments” and arguably keep the IDSME on a short leash. Members of the IDSME are often invited to AG Racing events, often as a PR/recruiting tactic for younger students, as well as communicating to the institute’s staff what ventures are on the horizon for Overtel (e.g., advance previews of the F9000 upgrades).
