The Overtel Corporation
Company
The Overtel Corporation is a media and communications company. Overtel was the parent company of Qirex Industries from the 4780s to the 4860s, which saw its role in the latter's dominance in AG racing during this period.
Overtel eventually succeeded in seizing control of the AG Race Commission in the early 4860s, through which the company orchestrated the AG racing series' upgrade to F9000 specification in 4886.
Treasure
While not officially an employee of Overtel, the company respects the pride and authority of Bertrude “The Inventor” Knox , the CEO of Kron Industries. Knox has an eccentric yet controversial public image.
Love of Strength
Overtel values strength over all else. They believe it not only enables achievement, but that it provides control.
The top brass at Overtel seek to test and prove their strength by growing the AG Racing series and expanding their control, power, and profits. Unfortunately, this company has managed to grow and maintain its power by exploiting a vicious, toxic culture. Narcissists in leadership roles almost never share credit or take blame. Many higher ups feel like knowledge is power, and so information is given only on a need-to-know basis. They move the goalposts on a whim or get attracted to some new project and change people’s focus without consulting them. They hide information about people who might get fired, which leads people to be worried about the stability of their jobs. An environment of mistrust is created for employees, setting up a structure in which everyone on a team feels like they are competing with each other. Those in power play favorites with members of their team, which results in people competing for a boss’s attention. These bosses undermine a sense of team by rewarding individuals who look out for themselves rather than being collaborative. Furthermore, strength and power is equated to dolling out disciplinary actions, yelling, or providing harsh criticism. These corporate leaders feel rewarded for using punishments and the threat of punishments to keep people motivated.
Overtel is a corrupt, ruthless and unscrupulous conglomerate that has sought to take control of the sport of anti-gravity racing for purely commercial ends. Once they gained control of the AG Race Commission (and by extension, AG racing itself), they have since implemented various changes to make the sport "better in the eyes of the audience". This includes the upgrade in specification to the F9000, which introduced more extravagant racetracks, an emphasis on vehicular combat over traditional racing prowess, and worldwide media exposure.
Relationships
Overtel usually finds an easy kinship with the The Institute for the Development of Scientific Magic and Engineering(IDSME). They respect the IDSME as a result of a long standing working relationship. Overtel employs a significant number of graduates from the IDSME, and has also made major financial contributions.
Overtel’s insatiable appetite for growth, success, and profit of AG Racing has meant even more reliance on procuring IDSME talent. Not only do they attempt to outbid other companies for top talent, Overtel in interested in hiring scientific magic users in volume.
Overtel see themselves as vulnerable to The Bards of Ash and Embers(BAE) for their skill and history of trading in secrets and privileged information. As an unscrupulous organization, Overtel has many skeletons in its closet that they cannot afford to reveal. The BAE would certainly have the ability to take advantage if they so desired.
As a massive media company, Overtel has years of experience “controlling the message.” From PR to false news and misinformation, they do everything in their power to keep their audience in the dark about their internal operations. Employees are kept under tight, high-pressure control. Contracts with stiff NDAs, legal loopholes, and other forms of intimidation keep dissenters in check. It has been rumored that the company has had people killed who were potential threats, although no incriminating evidence has ever been found.
