Coppergulch Harborage

Coppergulch Harborage, or better known as Coppertown, is a lawless village, located within the northern most areas of the Crack. Occasionally plagued by magical storms and a variety of other otherworldly occurrences, living in Coppertown is no easy feat, making it a very easy place to escape normal society. Its denizins are called Copperheads

History

It took many years after the appearance of the Crack, before people started to even consider living near that dangerous magical place. The first people who started to consider it their home were a couple of exiled dwarves from Rasvich. Having been exiled from their community, they had roamed the northern parts of Kaigan. Not wanting to fit into a normal community, the small group searched for a place to call their own.   Their eyes caught the red looking sides of the Crack, seeing walls filled with ores they assumed to be copper. They began referring to the place as the Coppergulch and set up camp next to the deep rift. With no hills or trees nearby and the influence of the sea on two sides, their camp was blown away by strong, cold winds before night fell. In a desperate attempt of survival, they pitched their mining gear to the side of the Crack, lowering themselves down into the rift and strapping themselves to the sides as best they could.   They survived the night, but the wind hadn't died down at all next morning. Being dwarves from Rasvich they opted for living underground and started creating holes into the side of the Crack. Slowly more people joined them and a community formed around the holes they had dug. Different skills made it possible to build more of a village, creating houses that both jotted out of the wall as well as burrowing themselves inside to best protect them from the occasional magic storm.   Currently, Coppertown is known for being very accepted of strangers, especially for people who don't fit into a normal society. While they are very accepting, they will not accept anyone who can't take care of themselves, but as long as someone has a useful skill or is strong enough to defend themselves, there will be a place in Coppertown to live.

Lawless town

Within Coppertown there is no central governing body and no set of pre-determined laws. But, while these do not exist, that does not mean everything goes. It is still not okay to murder someone or steal stuff others already had claimed. Everyone can call a village meeting about any subject and majority vote will determine the outcome. In the beginning of each meeting a chairman will be chosen to lead the meeting, this is done by everyone putting a name in the a tankard before entering the room. The person with the most votes will be chairman.   One of the most noticeable habits of this lawless system is that everyone labels their stuff meticulously in order to prevent people assuming it is something that is free to grab.

The origin story of the town is really interesting. I like that it's basically built down to protect them from the magical storms.
