Locke of Aarenheim
Locke of Aarenheim
Once a faithful soldier in the king’s grand army, Locke is only a shadow of his former self, emotionally damaged by past events.
He once served the king without question, carrying out order after order without question to the royal family, even if it had ill intent. While he was away from home, he would send letters back home to his wife and child, usually hearing back within 2 weeks of sending the letters. One day, the letters stopped, and Locke would hear from his family no more.
During his time on the battlefield, while he was tending to a military mission, his wife and daughter were unbeknownst to him sold as slaves by a high ranking military official to a traveling slaver. It would be 1 year before Locke could return home and see that they were gone, and his home abandoned. He searched and searched for answers, and through questioning and former friends, it led him to the military official.
When confronted, the official turned out to be his childhood friend, Reign, and he revealed to him why he sold his wife. He was in love with her, and seeing them together angered him, so if he couldn’t have her, nobody could, so he sold her off.
Hearing this, Locke lost his temper and beat his old friend to death on the spot, and ultimately almost killed 3 other guards in his outrage. He was imprisoned and set for execution in the following month, but not before being tortured. For 25 days he prayed and prayed, hoping the god of Justice would hear his call.
His prayers brought him nothing. A dog of war, a broken man. With nothing left he spoke out against the gods, and defied them for not helping in his time of need. This is considered a treasonous crime in his homeland, and thus he was branded as a heretic, figuratively and literally. They burned the symbols of all the gods on his face, upside down so all who crossed his path knew what he was.
Shortly after being branded, Locke saw an opportunity to escape and took it, fleeing from his kingdom. The gods are dead to him, and he will never serve under another kingdom again, instead he wants to find his family, and avenge them for being enslaved. He found that he can have a purpose with the Phoenix Militia, and joined their ranks in hopes of traveling the lands and finding his family.
An angry man that has a deep seeded hatred for the faith. But not without reason of course.
