The Chrysalis (The Kris-ah-lis)
She knew Bane'ile ships were unique, but Lu's Chrysalis was the strangest ship that Ket had ever seen. It was actually magenta and vaguely in the shape of a dragozale. The interior contained all the usual things that you would expect to find in a typical light freighter, but the layout didn't seem quite right. Then there was the constant noise. The thrum of rhythm and bass that reverberated throughout every bit of the ship in a never-ending beat and the walls were just as loud with splashes of bright colors mixing together like a crazy kaleidoscopic rendering of an ancient alien sunset. It was all too much for Ket. It was an assault on her senses. She couldn't even hear herself think. She wondered how anyone could possibly live in a place like this, but as far as she could see, Lu seemed perfectly at home here. Ket silently resigned herself to making the best of it. Look on the bright side she told herself. It's a fast ship and Lu is willing to take them where they need to go for free. There's a galley with adequate provisions and plenty of room for each of them. Lu even rigged up a hammock near the ceiling for TZ so she wouldn't have to sleep near the floor. It seemed like every time Ket made up her mind not to like her, Lu would do something surprisingly thoughtful.
DESCRIPTION
The Chrysalis is an old-style Bane'ile Mabamba Class Light Freighter that has been retro-fitted with state of the art technology and AI enabled automated systems. Affectionately known as Chrys, she is owned and piloted by Salelu Butwale Ti Orenga (a.k.a. Lu) and used to transport cargo and passenger loads that are too small to be profitable for the heavy freighters of Taanruk that dominate the interstellar trade routes. Before the Time Out of Time, the Chrysalis was the official transport for The Singers of Songs.

Reading this, I feel like there are just so many things tickling at my mind saying “just dig a little deeper.” Kat doesn't want to take the vessel but is because it is functional for whatever her situation is. But in the description, we the readers know “the Chrysalis was the official transport for The Singers of Songs.” Over in the description we see it was built near the end of the Age of Song. Is the story excerpt about that? Is Kat a Singer? Or does she not know the prominence of this vessel? I feel like the combination of the three types of information in the article were carefully crafted to drive an outsider like me crazy with a thousand was to connect the dots... if they even connect. Either way, very interesting and interesting design.
