There are three primary areas of research within the Research and Development sector;

Science:

This is the study of natural laws in the absence of metaphysical influence and includes the subschools of chemistry, physics, and biology. Science is the foundation used to support the other two active disciplines and most, if not all, members of the department have a strong understanding of all three subschools.

Technology:

Mostly focused on applying the knowledge learned from the two other areas, the tech branch shapesand applies the information discovered about science and arcana towards improving life, or efficiently ending it, depending on the needed application.

Arcana:

The investigation into where metaphysical forces originate, the various disciplines of application and categories of effects possible. Although the Ivory Tower mostly focuses on the study of known applications, there is a group of researchers dedicated to discovering new ways to access arcana and investigates why certain people are more connected to its' use than others of similar origins/states.
