The Ancestral

A plan that was years in the making to unify the dwarven clans was brought to successful fruition during the Black Fever, when Karak Ironwrought made the Thanes of all the clans swear allegiance to him, rejecting the city and the crown’s authority and expelled the kobold inhabitants of Blackwharf. Crowning himself Low King, this was to be the moment of triumph for Karak Ironwrought and the start of a new, united future for the dwarves.
In reality, in the modern age, clan means less to a dwarf than his guild and his friends, making the Ancestral’s claim on authority in the Blackwharf district quite shaky. In day to day affairs, the Ancestral acts as a civilian authority in the district, managing finances, infrastructure, and the justice system. While they collect a modest tax, Karak is well aware that it is easier to draw blood from stones than getting a dwarven merchant to give up his coin for the common good and as such the Ancestral also runs several businesses to ensure upkeep is kept.

Structure

The Ancestral are ruled by the Thanes, all of which has sworn loyalty to Karak Ironwrought. While Karak in principle has full power, he relies on the support of the Thanes and they can cause no small amount of trouble when unsatisfied.

Military

The Ancestral relies largely on The Faceless Legion to protect them, fielding only a handful of guard themselves.
