Aquitzal

The Rulers of the Seas

I watched her shape her creature, gently preparing it for life. It resembled those mermaids I heard about last time I visited that "Earth" place, only.. different. I liked it. It was the type of creature I could see in this world's oceans, creating a society, and thriving.
"Are you done yet?" I asked. "You've been working on that for a while."
"Almost."
"You said that 27 minutes ago."
"I don't think it was that long ago- done!"
She handed me the creature. It wasn't alive yet- still made of clay, but we could fix that.
"Are you ready?"
"Yes."
Wisps of light wove around it as clay turned to flesh, air filled its lungs, and water turned into blood.
The Aquitzals have risen.
-Unknown Deity
Created by the primordial Bryntesu, Aquitzals are the Rulers of the northern seas. Resembling humans with the tails of sea lions, large, finned ears, and sharp teeth. they can be a strange sight. They are masters at underwater combat, able to strike down foes and prey alike with ease.
Residing in the northern seas of Kathrir, they have built cities across the bottom of the ocean, commonly accessed by underwater train systems. These settlements are known amongst all of the races for their grand architecture and abundance of things to trade such as fish, crystals, and iron.
They are a rather friendly species, often traveling to towns on the coast to trade their goods and tell stories. They are also experts at certain types of magic (those types being water, ice, and electric) and often train to get their abilities under as much control as possible (especially the latter) before they are used in everyday life.
Sorry about the drawing quality btw, my markers bled a bit. Art is drawn by me, made with Ohuhu Markers

I think that these guys are so cool. Firstly Aquitzal is an excellent name and I think your drawing is really very good. I won't sugar coat my thoughts in the hopes that you take my complements as true facts rather than senseless flattery. (because my entire family is guilty of that) The hands could be a bit better but I can't draw hands very well either and there is so much seamless motion in the picture that the hands don't take away from it at all. Lastly, In my opinion, the marker bleed only adds to the style of the whole thing. accident or not it looks pretty incredible. Moving on from the art (because that is of course not the main point of this article. :) My absolute favorite part of this article is the relationship between your Deities at the start. I know that they are not the focus of the article either but you gave them so much personality in those few lines that I needed to mention it. Now finally moving on to the Aquitzal, I love the idea of an underwater train system that Shepard's people across the sea, and I love how trade-oriented their civilization seems to be. It opens a whole world of possible connections to the rest of the world. (Almost everyone in my world is very secluded, and I'm working on that but you are seamlessly avoiding the issue) Lastly one of my favorite parts of the Aquitzal is that they use Rosilica Coral to make their cities land-dweller friendly. Many people (including myself) would have simply there is a magic spell over their cities that makes the cool things happen and been done with. I admire the fact that you chose to add a bit more creativity to your writing. :) So in short as usual, You did a great job and this random stranger on this internet is proud of you and your skills.

Thank you so much!! Yeah the hands definitely need work. They are tricky lol. I'm really happy you liked the dialogue section! I think dialogue is one of my favorite things to write lol. The train and coral was really fun to come up with ideas for as well! Its like a puzzle and brainstorming ideas for what to do felt pretty cool cause I just started zooming and piecing together stuff to make something I was really proud of. Sorry I got back to you so late btw, There were a lot of notifications lol.
