Mana Currents

The Mana Currents are a massive cave system underneath the surface of Kathrir, with rivers of pure magic flowing through them. The caves are made of something similar to limestone, and both lighter and darker variants of this stone can be found in the caves. The Mana rivers look like rivers of a blue, iridescent, glowing liquid.

Geography

The Mana Currents are a giant cave system with rivers of pure mana flowing through them, located right under Kathrir. These river's speed is usually pretty fast, sometimes fluctuating a little bit, but with whatever's going on down there, its causing them to rise and speed up at an alarming rate. The cave system is huge and chaotic, and some people are still trying to map it out over a thousand years after it's discovery. Sometimes a cave makes contact with the surface, creating what is called a Mana Well. These are often used for performing larger spells such as summoning spells that would drain the spellcaster's magic in an instant.

Natural Resources

The stone from the caves is pretty well sought after due to it's high magical resistance, although apart from that it is basically just normal stone. Gemstones can be infused with magic from the currents, and these magical jewels are often put on jewelry to improve the wearer's spellcasting proficiency.

History

The mana currents were discovered by a group of mortals and deities when the world was still new and ripe for exploration. Eventually people realized how to make teleportation magic way easier by warping into the currents, being carried for a short amount of time, and warping up to the surface. This way they could go way farther while consuming way less energy. This was mainly used by Fae, who used their smaller wings to control where they were going in the mana currents. The other winged species, the Balonair, couldn't use this to their advantage due to any amount of mana overexposure could cause their feathers to glow and get too warm for them to handle.

Tourism

Tourism of the mana currents has become incredibly rare due to recent circumstances, and mana overexposure (A state when one's mana is completely overloaded, and if they stay in this condition for too long their mana may burn out completely, leading to terrible side effects such as sickness, extreme fatigue, and at it's worst, death, while during mana overload (Before burnout) symptoms may include unnaturally flowing hair, glowing eyes, hair, or feathers, loss of control of spells, and burns) is very likely to happen if you stay in the caves for long enough.
