The Balcony
You make your way up the staircase, stepping around loose stones and ignoring how the temperature drops and the corridor gets thinner with every step you take. By the time you reach out and find a door handle in the darkness, the smooth, cold stone walls are so close together that there is barely any room to move.
You step out of the corridor, relieved to be in a more open space... only to realize that the floor you are standing on is a stone ring that leads all the way around the room's edge, with only a thin metal railing separating you from a deadly fall into... who knows what.
You take a peek over the edge, trying to see the bottom, but the only thing you can see is a faint purple-tinted glow coming from far, far down, almost looking sinister.
You crouch down and find a pebble lying on the ground, and turn it over in your hand before throwing it into the pit, wondering how long it will take to hit the bottom.
Almost immediately, a spire of dark flame lunges from the bottom, cleanly searing the stone as the whole chamber begins to quake. You grab the railing for support, trying to stay on the platform as the ground shakes like something below is stirring, and trying to pull you into it's depths.
Make a strength check to hold on! (DC:12) If you made it, continue on! If you didn't, then go here! You manage to hold on as the trembling goes on and on, and the shaking eventually calms down. You get away from the edge as quick as you can, trying your best to avoid the same fate of that pebble you threw.
A deep rumble echoes from below, sounding discontent. Whatever is down there, it probably isn't happy that you didn't become its next victim.
You look around, and spot a large, gold-laden door on the other side of the ring that matches the description of the vault that you had been told about.
