Captain Comet
Captain Comet is a cheesy animated cartoon that is popular with Kavrillian children. There are hundreds of half hour episodes to watch on wayvision, and nearly as many action figures to collect. Fans can purchase a wide variety of other merchandise, including T-shirts, pajamas, lunch boxes, toothpaste, water bottles, and breakfast cereal.
When the show debuted in 4213, the entire cast was Lanarian. The first Vincaran protagonist, Asteroid Avenger Allox, was added to the show in 4221, and remained the only one a decade later. While the message of the show focuses on friendship and helping others, this apparent racial bias has drawn some criticism to the franchise.
Summary
Captain Comet is a male Lanarian super hero who travels through outer space with his team, the Asteroid Avengers. Sometimes they travel in a space ship, while other times they fly through space like, well, comets and asteroids. In addition to flight, Captain Comet has super strength, the abliity to make himself heard over impossibly long distances (even within the vacuum of space), heat ray vision, and whatever other powers are needed for the coolest plot to happen in that week's episode.
He frequently battles the evil Professor Zok and his Slime Troopers, as well as various monsters, robots, sorcerers, and other enemies. Logic and continuity are shaky at best.
Cultural Reception
Captain Comet is aimed at kids under ten years old. Parents who are able to appreciate the hokey goofiness of the show enjoy watching it with their children. Those who take it too seriously get annoyed at hearing the theme song for the eight hundredth time.
The series has stayed on the air for nearly twenty years and shows no signs of losing steam. In fact, in recent years the show's original fans have reached the age where they want to share it with their own offspring, leading to a surge in popularity.
In addition to the wayvision episodes, a feature-length animated film comes to theaters every other year.
