Shirefolk
The Shirefolk of Hearthshire
History, Culture & Society
The Human village of Hearthstone and the Halfling village of Shire Wood were separate communities for over sixty years, two miles of low hills, scrubland, a river, and woodland between them. Both suffered repeated raids from Goblin, Hobgoblin, and Lizardfolk Clans, Wolf packs, Trolls, and the odd Hill Giant or two throughout the year, soon either village or both would eventually be overrun. The two communities knew of each other through the trade of timber, bricks, and cider from the Halflings, and beer, wool, and flour from the Humans. The Elders of each village held a meeting, and the decision after days of debate, was to unite both communities, combining both resources and manpower, which added strength in numbers to defeat the enemies beyond their homeland. Two of the families of the original Elders still hold influence in the village to this day, and they are The Blackgrain’s (Human, Pelosian), and The Underhill’s (Halfling, Harnian). For over two hundred years the Pelosian Humans and the Harnian Halflings have lived, worked, and defended their home together. The village of Hearthshire, where they call home, has grown in size and importance, trade relations with other settlements locally, and even beyond The Pelosian Kingdom’s borders has steadily grown year on year, and the village and surrounding population has almost reached the size of a small town. What better outcome could have been predicted from joining both races as one, the Shirefolk as they are now known. Over the last thirty years the Blackgrain, Browncask, Goodbarrel, Underhill, Redbrick, Whitestone and Goodhand families have greatly improved the wealth and popularity of the shirefolk.Important Shirefolk:

Ok, now you've got me fascinated by this group of people. What festivals do they have? Has any of their traditions from their separate cultures from way back in the day blended into one tradition they all follow? Like marriage ceremonies, or harvest festivals? If I was playing in a campaign, I would certainly play a character from here!
I was going to write about their festivals etc, but i thought maybe i'll have some separate article/s. The Shirefolk are an industrious people, down to earth, mostly friendly and accepting of others. It wouldn't be a bad idea to play a character from here. They are very much like the Dalesmen of The Forgotten Realms. Thanks for the Like as always my friend. Aemon
