Restrictionist Magai

The Restrictionist Magai were a group of Magai which emerged late in the Second Age. For most of their existence, they weren't a formal grouping, but rather a slow-creeping change of mentality among some Magai. Specifically, they fell for the rumors and lies spread by The Coalition, intent on poisoning people's opinions of the Magai, painting them as oppressors over the general public.   The Restrictionists believed that the Magai should have more oversight by outside parties, and that there should be more restrictions on them as a whole. They believed that the Magai naturally had great power due to their magic, and their sheer numbers allowed them great influence in the galaxy, and that they weren't handling that with enough responsibility. That their abilities made it easy for them to slide into the role of oppressors, and that there should be more checks to ensure this would not happen.

Structure

The Restrictionists were (mostly) an informal party, banded together by shared opinions without much of a direct link. Over time they begun to gather together more formally, eventually selecting a Spokesperson to represent them towards both outsiders and the Magai Hands, the ruling council of the Magai.

Public Agenda

The Restrictionists' agenda followed their beliefs exactly. They were of the opinion that the Magai Order was overstepping its boundaries, overextending their powers, oppressing the 'ordinary' folk, and they wanted to see further restrictions from both inside the Order and outside it. Because of this, they saw frequent conflict (even if it rarely turned physical) with other Magai who felt differently.

Disbandment

The Restrictionist Magai ended up the same as the rest of the Magai: scattered to the winds after the public turned on them. Despite sharing the same believes as the people coming after them, the Restrictionists were no more protected than other Magai, having those same vilified magical powers. In the end, their beliefs made no difference: they either died, or went into hiding like all other Magai.
