Manchukuo

Government

While technically a constitutional monarchy, its one party policy, and outsized authority of the emperor over the prime minister makes the label more dubious. Furthermore the government of Manchukuo is subservient o that of the Empire of Japan, which will not allow any actions they don't approve of. The government was established and beholden to Japan, and is therefore a puppet state.

History

Manchukuo as a distinct political entity was formed in 1931, but is composed of the deposed remnants of the Qing Dynasty that ruled China until the 1910s. Seeing weakness in China, Japan decided to stage a false flag attack on a railroad called the "Mukden Incident", which was used as justification for the invasion of the Manchuria, which at that time was under the control of the Republic of China. The territory was quickly overwhelmed and the Sosukese established a puppet government and placed Emperor Puyi, the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty, as head of the state to give it legitimacy. Since then it has remained as a puppet state of Japan

Sosukese Involvement

Manchukuo has become a base of operations for several endeavors that the Japanese government would prefer to keep off their own soil.   This includes the "Epidemic Prevention and Water Purification Department", also known as Unit 731, which despite its benign name, is involved in the creation of deadly contagions, chemical weapons, nuclear weapon research, and human experimentation.   Manchukuo is also home to a large government funded opium operation. While drugs aren't allowed within Japan proper, growing them and exporting them abroad via the black market allows them to raise capital and destabilize rival populations while retaining plausbile deniability through their puppet state.   Manchukuo is also used as a dumping ground for evidence of incidents and operations that the Japanese government would rather not let their own people or the outside world know about, such as mass graves and forced labor camps.

Foreign Policy

The foreign policy of Manchukuo is whatever the foreign policy of the Empire of Japan is at the time. Manchukuo has no policy independent of Japan.

Economy

Chinese territories, including Manchukuo, are impoverished by international standards. Most funding and infrastructure is provided by, and largely for the benefit of, Japan. These are most often state funded and operated companies sometimes run by the Army. An effort to encourage migrants from Japan to establish farms seized from natives was initiated, and thus a large number of Japanese have moved in to develop the land to increase agricultural output.

Culture

Because the Manchurians had ruled over China for hundreds of years, their culture has a very large degree of overlap with China; far more than they do with the Japanese anyways. While many hallmarks of the Qing Dynasty were purged from the Republic of China after the 1910s revolution, they are alive and well in Manchukuo. Manchuria is a largely rural region, so most inhabitants are spread out across its large landmass in farms. An attempt at "Japanization" was begun after the creation of the Manchurian state, especially within its education system, so that the next Manchurian generations could be raised onJapanese ideas and culture.

Geography

Manchukuo suffers from great seasonal fluctuations: Hot summers, and frigid dry winters. Heavy winds blow dust in from Mongolian because there are few mountains and elevated terrain standing in the way.
