Bixby doesn't really like to talk about her life before Pavel took over the job as her caretaker. (Hell, she won't even tell anyone her real name.)
It's not exactly a riddle to figure out that things happened that shouldn't have. And it's rude to ask a person what those things were. Especially, when that person is as fond of keeping a sharp object in hand as Bixby seems to be. Not that she needs the sharp things.
Bix has always been touched by the "ways of the strange" or, well, magic for those that don't beat around the bush about it.
Knowledge about the supernatural things that go bump in the night are far from a secret at this point on the Earth, but acknowledging when someone you know might be one of those things is a little taboo. One is not supposed to talk about it. For everyone's sake.
Pavel has convinced Bixby that despite her ability to learn things just fine on her own, maybe an actual degree wouldn't be such a bad idea. She is eighteen now, after all, and college is the normal eighteen year old agenda.
So, now she's about to start her first year at Greenbriar.
