Thane

The Thane of a Dwarfhold is akin to a King or Chieftain; they are the head of the most powerful clan (or clans, as it may be) within the city, and are responsible for both the decison-making within it's government, as well as any military decisions related to the city and it's defense. While Thane is a Hereditary Title within a family, if a family or clan loses status or honor, they may no longer be the most powerful clan within that city, and can have the title of Thane removed from them and given to another family or clan.

Thane is traditionally passed from a father to their eldest son, however, there have been instances of female clan leaders in years past.
