Failures & Embarrassments

His son Bellum presumably going AWOL while on a mission in the north of Aurleen. Balor is torn between his fatherly love wanting his son to turn up unharmed and his military honour hoping his son died fighting courageously instead of disappearing like the rumours say. It's better to refrain from mentioning Bellum while in Balor's presence.

It's not exactly clear how Balor feels about his daughter Shireen stubbornly refusing to be a lady and becoming an adventuring bard instead. Maybe having a strong-willed, independent daughter is not a bad thing. After all, Balor is very proud of his five sons all taking after him, maybe Shireen is just the same.

Mental Trauma

• Lost his sword fighting arm in battle, making him unable to further lead troops into battle
• His son Ronan dying on the battlefield. Balor couldn't be more proud, but still, as a loving father his heart aches

Motivation

The Redkin family has a long tradition of serving Aurleen's king. Balor will never leave the king's side and is ready to give his life for him. He has already fulfilled his personal goal of producing sons to further defend Aurleen.

His ability to always keep his calm and think rationally make him a trusted military tactician for King Graham. Even though he won't let emotions get in the way of his duty, he is still a loving father and husband at home, earning him the respect of his family and neighbours.
