Conjured Spirits

Conjured Spirits

Certain magic spells and runes have the ability to call forth a spirit from beyond the veil. These spirits may be malicious in nature or peaceful, but their physical forms and presence in this world are only temporary as spirits are not able to maintain a physical form.

Even spirits bound to a tangible object cannot remain for long. The magical power required to keep a soul tied to an object is far too immense to maintain. Revenants are the one exception to this. These spirits tied to metal shells are powered by kinfire cores, which provide an inexhaustible source of magical energy (see Revenants).

The spells used for conjuring spirits nearly always involve the use of sigils and runes, which create a pathway of sorts between the world of the living and the world beyond. It's been rumored among scholars that a staff exists with the ability to call forth spirits without the need of runes. It has been described as a bronze rod topped with a kinfire ember, however it's unknown whether or not this item actually exists.

Dangers

Conjuring spirits is generally seen as dangerous if a magic-user has not been properly trained. Some spirits called forth have proven to be malicious in nature. It is believed that the bitter and destructive emotions from their previous lives have amplified over time and completely consumed them. When conjured, these souls tend to become a dangerous and unpredictable embodiment of those negative emotions.
