Dragons
Dragons
Although dragons were once plentiful in Atios, their population has greatly dwindled. Most still reside in the far-north lands where there is little chance of outside disturbance. Since the return of the Darkness, however, they have been scattered, with some even seen flying in the skies near Din'Lux.
Many scholars have attempted to study dragons but have found that they consistently resist study. They are cautious around people and choose to live in isolation. As a result, much of the information surrounding dragons is inconsistent and unproven. Some believe that dragons have the ability to speak and to reason, while others question their very existence and claim them to be merely myth.
Solar Dragons
Most commonly seen in Atios are solar dragons. These creatures are believed to gather energy by absorbing sunlight with their scales acting as a sort of sponge, pulling in light. For this reason, when the sun is at its peak, these dragons can be found outside their mountain dens bathing in the light. If they are unable to receive sunlight for many days in a row, it has been observed that they become lethargic and even ill.
Other Dragons
Both ancient and contemporary texts written by travelers to other lands make mention of other types of dragons that have not been seen in the region surrounding Din'Lux. Some of these creatures are said to be able to breathe flame and frost. Others are said to be much smaller than solar dragons, growing not much bigger than an eagle.
