Phaeon
they/them
Phaeon is a being known as a revenant—a departed soul inhabiting a metal shell powered by kinfire. They were created in a lab deep in the Scholars' Circle Guildhall a year after the return of the Darkness. Phaeon's creator, Talos, was another revenant—the very first of their kind.
When they were first awakened, with Talos by their side, they immediately recalled their former name: Phaeon. They saw flashes of people…memories from their previous life.
Every other revenant ever created had awakened with no memory and barely a sense that they’d ever been alive. But Phaeon was different.
Talos was intrigued—thrilled, even—at this unexpected event and wanted to study Phaeon. This could be the opportunity they had been searching for—a way to restore a revenant’s memory.
Phaeon, however, was afraid and confused. They ran from Talos and away from the Scholars' Circle. A member of the newly selected First Expedition, a well-known dwarven warrior named Eitri, agreed to conceal Phaeon in their wagon as they departed from Din'Lux.
Phaeon successfully escaped the city and found themselves tagging along with the adventurers of the First Expedition. The Expedition’s mission—to contact and aid survivors of the Starless Nights—soon became Phaeon’s mission as well.
PERSONALITY & SKILLS
Phaeon is a considerate soul—thoughtful of others and never hesitant to jump in and help. They feel emotion deeply and have a talent for mediating conflict among others.
As Phaeon’s memories begin to resurface while traveling with the First Expedition, they reclaim more and more of their past self. As a revenant with a memory, they are truly unique, able to apply what they learned in the past to what they face in the present.
Many revenants have access to magical energy through their kinfire core. Phaeon possesses the ability to move at super fast speeds, appearing as a blur. Their use of this ability is somewhat limited, and has only appeared in life-threatening situations.
During their travels, Phaeon encounters a strange, lizard-like animal among the ruins of a city. Naming the creature Azza, Phaeon sees them as a sign of hope and renewal. They quickly become a close companion of Phaeon's and can be seen perched atop their shoulder or skittering around the First Expedition camp, eating up dinner crumbs.
