Roland Wordforger

Seeker Crew 91
pronouns: he/him

Personality

Roland is an inquisitive scholar, with genuine interest in the nature of the world and inner workings of magic. Being raised with a patriotic spirit, he’s also quite dutiful and believes in the values passed down to him in his homeland, Dwar Fell. He has a sense of pragmatism and a desire to improve quality of life through science and technology.

Roland doesn’t harbor genuine hatred for other species, but his views have been somewhat warped by wartime propaganda. Though he mourns the many lives lost, he believes that Dwar Fell's cause was just and that kinfire was a powerful resources that should have been shared among all people instead of hoarded by the Luminated Alliance.

Roland is polite and kind to others regardless of their rank, but he's also prone to getting lost in his thoughts and losing the thread of a conversation. He prefers to think things through twice before making a decision, and doesn’t rush into action without preparation. He dislikes brute force and emotion-fueled violence and favors logic and observation. In some situations, Roland’s hesitance to act quickly and decisively has proven to be a weakness.

Special Abilities
Roland's specialty is as a fire mage with ranged and area attacks that utilize magic spells, initiated through spoken word and gestures.

Personal History

From a young age, it was clear that Roland had the spirit of a scholar. He joined the Scholars' Circle as soon as possible and dedicated himself to his studies. His father, a general in the armies of Dwar Fell, encouraged him to learn the military arts, but Roland wasn’t interested in fighting in the seemingly endless Great War. While he did believe that the Luminated Alliance should be sharing the knowledge of kinfire with everyone, he was sure that there could have been a diplomatic solution rather than brute violence.

Despite his personal convictions, Roland was pressured by his father into joining the army. He trained as a battle mage, specializing in fire magic and found that he excelled as a sorcerer. His skills allowed him to advance quickly and when the Darkness returned, Roland found himself fighting in the siege against Din'Lux. Luckily, both Roland and his father were among the survivors who were offered refuge by Hierophant Selen.

Eventually, after Vath of the Tuskrippers wrestled control of the city, Roland settled in the Horseshoe District along with the other dwarven refugees. He united with members of the Scholars' Circle who had been fighting in the war and took advantage of the elves’ new willingness to share information on kinfire magic. He absorbed as much information as he could but felt there was more to learn outside the libraries of the Circle. Hoping to discover more about the nature of the Starless Nights and kinfire by venturing out beyond the city walls, he joined the Seekers’ Guild.

Though Roland still grieves his homeland of Dwar Fell, he does his best not to linger on these feelings. The fate of his mother, who'd been back home when the Darkness returned, is unknown. His father, here in Din'Lux, has since remarried and has acclimated far better to life in Din'Lux than Roland would have ever expected. He has laid down his battle axe in favor of a slower pace of life, and though Roland has tried many times to talk to his father of their old days back home, he refuses to linger on the past. Instead, Roland must face his grief and homesickness alone and take comfort in his new family in the Seekers' Guild.

A keen mind. Wields power from his kinfire blood.
