The Berian Empire
Before the return of the Starless Nights, the Berian Empire lay at the southern coast of the Great Sea. It's capital, the Crimson City, rested on the Strait of Madron, an essential passageway for trade ships. This city and its empire are believed to have been swallowed by the Darkness along with the rest of the world outside the city of Din'Lux.
History
The Empire was formed only 300 years ago, when the mostly-human kingdom of Beria began a campaign of colonization on the surrounding areas and the Southern Isles. The goal of this expansion was to amass an enormous territory, while also targeting land rich in resources.
The Great War
The Great War between the Luminated Alliance and Dwar Fell had been raging for centuries and was only accelerating. The Empire saw an opportunity to profit from this conflict by carefully playing both sides. While feigning neutrality, they secretly sold weapons, ships, and supplies to both Dwar Fell and the Luminated Alliance.
The Crimson City
The capital of the Crimson City was named for the reddish color of its seaside buildings, which were originally built using the deep red local clay.
The people of the city were widely varied, although the majority of the population was human. A number of different religions were present throughout the city and the Empire, but the Great Pantheon, which incorporates the worship of many gods, is the most prevalent.
