Victims of crystal pox are only infectious at the boils stage. Once they are fully covered in crystals, they no longer spread the disease.

Blockades are placed on the roads leading in and out of The March. Nobody goes in or out. For a month, the crystal pox ravages the countryside.
When the blockades are lifted, many fields lie fallow with no farmers left to tend them. Marcher villages are dotted with gleaming statues of the afflicted.
But thanks to The Council's quick thinking, the disease doesn't spread beyond The March's borders.
Once the roads reopen, the Barons of the March harvest gemstones from the quarantined dead and sell them at a tidy profit.
