Districts

Dutch Africa included the colonies of Transvaal, Bechuanaland, Zululand, and Swaziland.

History

During the Napoleonic Wars, the Kingdom of Holland under Louis I sided with the coalition powers against his brother. In return, Louis was allowed to remain as king, and most of the Dutch colonial holding were returned with the noatable exception of Cape Colony in South Africa. The Dutch subsequently colonized north of the region, establishing the colony of Transvaal, and allying with the Kingdom of Swaziland.   During the regin of Louis II, his wife, Queen Hortensia, pursuaded the king to implement some of the teachings of Karl Marx into the region beginning in 1847. Though this decreased the violence of the indigenous population in the region, they began to see the struggle of workers versus the bourgoisie among racial lines.   With the discovery of gold and diamonds in the Transvaal region in 1867, British conglomerates under mineral magnate Cecil Rhodes attempted to undercut Dutch rule by establishing British mines in the reigon. When Holland protested, they were eventually ignored by @Great. This gradually led to the South African War on 1880, which ended in a surprise Dutch victory. Dutch rule was solidified in Transvaal, as well as their protectorates of Bechuanaland, Swaziland, and now Zululand.   During the Berlin Conference beginning in 1884, Holland agreed to cede their claims over Southern Rhodesia in exchange for financial compensation and global recognition over their African colonies, especially the protectorates.   During the Great War, Holland successfully invaded and annexed the Cape Colony from Britain as a means to constrain the latter's ability to safely travel between its colonies. At the end of the Great War, Holland fell to vanguardism, a radical form of communism by Vladimir Lenin, and the colonial empire fell to a power vacuum.   During the power struggle, the protectorates of Zululand and Swaziland declared their independence as small Kingdoms, while Transvaal and Bechuanaland became republics attempting to reassert their minority ruled control. However, the indigenous population led a revolution, took control, and declared the People's Republics of Mzani and Botswana under Communist rule. The region that had been Cape Colony declared its own independence from the communists, and became the Republic of the Cape. Further, the Basotho allies of the British attempted to become an independent kingdom as well, but became embroiled in a war with Mzani and the Cape.   By 1925, the former colonies in South Africa had been denegrated into a cold war between the British allied Cape Republic, the People's Republic of Mzani, the Poeple's Republic of Botswana, and the independent indigenous kingdoms of Zululand, Swaziland, and Basutoland.
