Aldori Dueling
A style of swordfighting developed in Rostland nearly a millenium ago, practioners of this art balance offense and defense in equal parts. It is considered a noble pursuit, yet unlike many other dueling styles taught to nobility, Aldori duelists are shown practical application in addition to flashy, ostentatious displays. Many an opponent has been caught off-guard by a duelist who suddenly dropped their act of play fighting before launching into a devastating salvo of blows upon their brow.
The style is famed for keeping one hand free to catch an opponent off-guard by grabbing at their clothing, hair, or armor and throwing them off-balance. All the while, the duelist remains ever mobile, eschewing the typical armor of swordsmen and instead using their innate mobility to stay safe. The strangely balanced nature of the dueling sword allows the most flexibility with this style of fighting as the sword's heavier blade almost carries the wielder through their strikes.
Those who show mastery with this style are asked to adopt the last name "Aldori" to carry on the sword school's legacy and are dubbed "Swordlords." Their skill with the blade and and backing of the powerful school tends to lead these Swordlords into positions of power throughout Brevoy - though they are encouraged to maintain a fierce independence from the greater whole of Brevoy and House Surtova.
