Fire // Ignition
"In your eyes I may only have the ability to emit fire and flames, but don't underestimate me.
We may be mortal enemies, Hydrokineticist, but are you really ready to bet on the fact that your water can extinguish my passion!?"
The ability to turn one's own energy into heat, into a flaming inferno is quite a dangerous ability to master, but a vital ability for many societies. Be it on an industrial level or in matters of transportation, Pyromancers can easily find a way to turn their excess heat into profit. But what many don't realize is just how varied this power can be if wielded by an arcanist with readiness to study the way of the flame. Hurling fireballs is viewed at the Arcane University as the most basic usage of igniting the presence.
Studying various gates of the Veil allows for quite a varied arsenal of trade.
Flames // Hellfire
On the most basic level can the abilities of any Pyromancer boiled down to the following process. Via sacrificing some energy reserves of the arcanist's body they can heat up various body parts, reaching the point of bursting quickly, lingering flames out of their pores to the outside, forming a ball of fire. Depending on the amount of energy invested the fireball will either be bigger or one can emit a constant short-ranged stream of bristling flames. Some have however their ability to emit flames tied way closer to their emotions and tend to burst and explode whenever they get ticked off.
But all these flames are harmless for the practitioner, barely able to even scorch skin and hair. This feeling of security encourages many pyromancers to push further and test the limits of their energy. Pushing the knowledge over their own Gate to the limit allows the mage to bypass the security measures of their magic fairly safely. These hotter flames, dark-red in appearance, are commonly referred to as hellfire, a fire to consume even the source if handled faulty. Hellfire has to be handled with care and should not touch the skin of the mage for longer than necessary, being able to burn through the fire-resistant skin with ease.

Ghostfire // Soul Ignition
It took many recitements of weird words for Nochi's symbiotic partner to finally understand the meaning of these phrases, putting it to use to help them both barge through the Gate of Autumn and unlocking the fabled Ghostfire. Well, at least Nochi's partner understood, as all these oddly scientific phrases about the composition of air and whatnot flew over the kobold's head like cannonballs missing the barn. All Nochi knew was that their new pure white fire was pretty, but oddly useless outside of the master's monastery. The moment she left the place of training, being again under the glooming night sky, the flame in her hand appeared drowsy and sated. Gone was the ferocity inside, tame and useless had the flame become. But Nochi wasn't bothered. It was probably her partner levelling the flame to not harm others. That must be the reason, that alone.
Ghostfire is a popular but rarely achieved sidegrade to any pyromancer's array of assets. The pure white flame acts in reverse to any other flame the mage can produce. Feeding on CO2 the flame emits elemental oxygen rendering it a valuable, but limited option in enclosed areas. For as long as there is an abundance of CO2 in the air the flame will act hungry and powerful, but short-lived in her effect. With a rise of oxygen, the flame diminishes in intensity until it will be unable to sustain itself anymore. At that moment the air will be oversaturated with oxygen, which will render any follow-up flame conjuration to ignite and explode the room.
Using it however in the open is quite ineffective. Ghostfire even gets seen as a safe method to ignite candles and torches outside due to its sheer inability to spread in case of any occuring accident.
Soul ignition on the other hand doesn't get publicly taught like Ghostfire, mainly due to its extremely narrow usage for good deeds. The ability to burn away memories saw only brief utilisation in psychotherapy to treat traumatas until realizing that the body remembers as well. Sometimes it also gets used to prepare sleeper agents or wipe the memories of enemy spies who saw too much.
But the more widespread usage of this ability is far more sinister. Slavers from the Underground have already long ago perfected the usage of this ability for nefarious purposes. Be it in breaking untrained 'wares' by periodically igniting small sections of their long-term memory to eventually find and 'replace' the straws the 'ware' is still able to grasp to stay defiant. Or much rather use the short-term memory as their tinder. Erasing and liquifying days in which their 'possessions' experience a ray of hope or a smidge of defiance, rendering every growing seed of revolution into a dud.
Soul ignition is labelled by the Arcane Arcanum as 'black magic' and should never be practised by any upstanding citizen of this planet.
"The worst aspect about the technique we refer to as 'Soul Ignition' is the craftiness of our very own brain.
Subtle usage of these mental flames causes the erasure of memories across your whole existence. But in such a gentle margin that the brain will be able to fill in the void with coherent fake memories.
This dreaded magic turns its victim into an amnesiac without them even noticing, wiping their memories clean while maintaining the person as a whole.
There have been records from the far past, where this technique got used to lobotomise criminals, literally wiping their criminal record clean.
These ex-criminals were unable to even recall a singular bad deed they had done, even when being confronted by it. The fake memories are rock solid and unable to be torn down because the real memories have been turned into cinders.Mauze Tung

Physical Alterations
Pyromancers are fireproof. That is what they believe and what everybody thinks their symbiosis provided to their body. But the fire resistance of a pyromancer is much more nuanced than that. The mutation of one's body never really ceases to develop for these mages. Their skin hardens and gets more resistant to be able to handle the heat of their normal flame at all times. New pyromancers are far less resistant than revered followers of the flame. But to burn brighter comes with drawbacks as well, hence why the Arcane Arcanum recommends a balance of a core heat one shouldn't overstep. The more resistant the mage is against fire, the more vulnerable will they be against the absence of heat.
For the most powerful pyromancers is the chilly breeze like literal blades cutting through their bodies.
Due to their need for warm and fireproof clothing an ingenious clothier of Echterwalden started a brand of fashionable cloaks and mantles for the modern pyromancer. This advancement shaped the grave differences in clothing preferences between the warm and cold areas of the world. While pyromancers near the equator are known for their skimpy outfits do the utilisers of the flame near the poles wear warm and snuggly 'Pyrowarmster' brand outfits.
Ignis' Love
Receiving Ignis' boon from the nature guardian of their element is a game changer for any Pyromancer. The true proficiency to their flame thanks to the arcane tattoos on their body renders them able to split, just like other sorcerers of a full affinity to their element can. These golems made of flames, lava and slag can be used by the symbiotic partner to turn the tides, giving the two personas in the pyromancer's soul a body each.
Unlike the golems of the Water or Earth magic prefer pyromancers however to only rely on this ability when they have to. A golem consisting of lingering flames tends to ignite everything flammable it touches. Insurance doesn't cover damage caused by sheer stupidity.
Interesting powers. I wonder about the ability to imagine/ visualize burning away diseases or toxins. Or "borrowing" from nearby flame- or the heat of others. The exerpts on Nochi and memory burning is really good in adding flavor.
Cleansing in the mental fire sounds like an interesting take and I believe that should be possible with opening the gate of winter to get access to more healing oriented practices. Borrowing flame, not possible. Pyromancers have the hard limit that they can produce fire, but never control it. Or leech from fire. Pyrokineticists (a heritage magic of fire and mind) are the opposite. Unable to generate fire, but are literal fire whisperers, abducting fire to use it as their own.
