Yoru Dynasty

Vampire clans of Isamaru and Doronuma, founded by the mythical Yoru Clan after receiving aid from Yokubo the Grasping One. They once held great political and military power in Isamaru, but after being driven to the edge of extinction during the Kumori Uprising they have done their best to pull strings from behind the scenes and keep a low profile while building their power.

Structure

The types of vampires are organized into families, with all the families managing their affairs seperately but doing the wishes of the Progenitors if possible. Masuyo the Blood Waster is currently deceased, pending resurrection, but Tamiko the Kindly and Kusho the Face Stealer both hold great influence over their broods.
  The lingeages are as such:
  • The Chinoke Clan are blood drinking vampires sired by Masuyo and her brood.
  • The Kokoro Clan are psychic vampires who steal memories and identities, sired by Kusho and their brood.
  • The Muso Clan are dream drinking vampires that steal people's life energy through preventing them from resting, sired by Tamiko the Kindly and her brood.
The lines of power in families are seldom based on actual birth order or lineages of children. When someone is bit or "sired", they are unswervingly loyal to their vampiric master until they grow powerful enough to become an independent vampire. Vampires often hold great respect for their sires, but also a great bloodthirsty desire to ascend within the power structure by force through assassination. When a vampire kills and consumes their sire they claim their power and influence. This practice is mostly discouraged within Kusho and Tamiko's court, but with the abscence of Masuyo it has blossomed within blood drinking vampire communities.

Culture

Vampires of the Yoru Dynasty revere Yokubo and are known to be hedonistic to the extreme, spending their ageless existences engaging in depraved mockeries of mortal life. Many particularly love turning and corrupting the virtuous, honorable and kind. They are proficient in many forms of torture, but the process of being turned is generally painful enough. In the first few day after being bitten and turned the newly sired vampire will experience aches, fever, nausea, dizziness, hypersensitivity to light, noise and smell and a growing desire to feed. After they have fed they will begin to stabilize, but the process of turning is quite harrowing physically as well as emotionally and spiritually. Many cruel vampires will turn a captive and then deny them food and revel in their descent into madness until they beg to become a monster.

Public Agenda

Power and greater ability to feed is all the vampire clans care about, as well as a spiteful desire to see the mortal world fall to ruins. Tamiko's brood take a more merciful and humane approach, to encourage loyalty and gentler feeding practices, while many of Masuyo's descendants embrace the butchery and barbarism that comes with their bloodlust. Kusho's descendants do their best to infiltrate, impersonate and replace influential figures to create a vast and insidious network of control.

History

In the first days of the Time of Kings, plague swept through the village of Yoru in the Kumori Foothills. An old man named Jurou and his three children Tamiko, Kusho and Masuyo were the lone survivors, having left on a hunting trip. When they returned to see the devestation wrought on their village, Jurou cried out in despair to the night sky and begged that they may be spared this gruesome fate. Yokubo appeared to him and his children and saw in the children a great ambition, a hunger for more. The god asked what Jurou wished of them, and he simply said   "I want my children to never grow old and infirm like me, never grow sick and to rebuild Yoru better than before."
"Are you prepared to pay the price?" the Grasping One asked him.
"I would sacrifice anything for my children, even my own body and soul." he said, bowing his head to the god.
"Then you shall" said Yokubo, and the children descended upon their father and feasted upon him.
They each became the first Vampires. The eldest Tamiko became the first of the Dream Drinkers, a mockery of Yokubo's sibling the Lord of Dreams who consumes peoples dreams while they sleep and gains their power. The middle child Kusho became the first Memory Vampire, draining a person's thoughts and feelings and taking them for his own as they became a faceless husk. The youngest child Masuyo became the first Blood Drinker, draining the vitality of a person through drinking their blood. They began to bite more people, spreading their own forms of vampirism across the land and eventually conquering most of Isamaru. After their conquest they began infighting, with Kusho and Masuyo becoming the most dominant and Tamiko and her folk fading into legend. Akiko Yoru of Tamiko's brood trained Risona Eiji and the first Gloom Stalkers to dispatch other vampires as power struggles between vampires intensified. Mortals took advantage of their instability and launched the Kumori Uprising in 80 AD. After their defeat in 94 AD, their power shattered, the vampires hid away in isolated mountain fortresses and bide their time to strike...
