Endless Sea
The Endless Sea is the official name for the body of open water located off the continent's northwest coast. To the casual eye, it looks like any other sea, but it has a reputation for swallowing any ship that doesn't heed its dangers. Despite this, Tirglasian vessels routinely travel and fish around the area. When it comes to sailors from other countries, few but the greenest would try more than hug the Tirglasian shoreline, even the Talfaltaner city ships wouldn't dare to risk these waters.
Localized Phenomena
What makes the Endless Sea so dangerous is its propensity for tempests known by the Tirglasians as widow storms and most Tirglasian sailors have at least one tale of avoiding the winds that'd send them to join less-fortunate souls. Whilst the timing of these storms is largely unpredictable until it's almost upon an unsuspecting vessel, it is known they come from the north and the winds create huge waves that are capable of capsizing a ship in the blink of an eye.
Records going back as far as the Ancient Domian occupation speak of the same storms causing them trouble with chasing down local warships. It was their belief that the freezing winds off the northern ice shelf and the eastern air current from the northern strait combined with the warmer winds from the south to create what they called beautiful chaos.
Climate
The region doesn't vary from season to season. A frigid wind always blows and the waters are always choppy. Regular storms sweep the area, set to buffet the unwary to a watery grave just as eagerly as the more dangerous ones.
Natural Resources
The reason anyone dares the Endless Sea at all, beyond sailing the shoreline, is the abundance of large fish.
