Auditor
"For this famine, the Ravener gifts you with this boon."
~Skeris Thoomer, Auditor of the Umbral Benediction
Qualifications
For an Intercessor to create an Auditor, the candidate must display utter pitilessness and a certain lack of creativity, traits that will be amplified by the Subsumption.
Appointment
In a process known as Subsumption, the Intercessor implants a wretched animus into the candidate (most likely against their will).
Duties
Auditors are extensions of the Intercessor's will, and their representative.
Responsibilities
The soul parasite slowly eats their personality over the next decade or two, and in the meantime the Auditor is controlled by the Intercessor body and tattered soul. They channel the Intercessor's power, deliver messages, impose their will, and dole out gifts, punishments and rewards.
Benefits
The parasite provides the Auditor with access to shadowy magics and a limited necromancy.
Accoutrements & Equipment
Auditors wear a signet ring to identify themselves. To most people, the signet bears no icon on the plate, but an Umbral Supplicant can see a rune made of smoking shadow.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
When the Auditor's soul has been completely consumed or when they are slain, their bodies immediately and violently rot and waste away to blighted, moldy bones. The wretched soul drags whatever is left of the Auditor's spirit back to the Umbral Shroud.
Source of Authority
Auditors are appointed by the Intercessor directly, sometimes from the various cells but just as often from among the general population.
Length of Term
Lifetime; typically 10 - 20 years.
