Furyling
"They sting. Don't fuck with the pretty yellow ponies."
~Odothebild, President-in-Exile of Lake Hope.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Furylings are hard, oblong lumps of flesh covered in chitinous armor. They have two eyes, up to 12 tentacles, and a pair of frenetic wings. They lack a mouth or any recognizable organs, inside their shell is simply flesh with tubes and fluids all working together for the purpose of moving them and attacking their enemies.
Each of the tentacles is lined wtih long, thin thorns filled with acid.
When a Furyling dies, the tubes holding their internal fluids break down rapidly and there's a chance that they burst into a mist of acid, leaving behind only a few extremities, a pile of acidic goop, and a red pearl. This final act can be more dangerous than simply letting them live or subduing them.
Genetics and Reproduction
Growth Rate & Stages
When the larva consumes the red jelly, they immediately begin convulsing as their soupy insides contort and congeal into the rudimentary body of the Furyling. Over the course of a minute, the transformation is complete, and the new Furyling bursts out of its old skin. It immediately begins seeking living creatures to kill.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Furylings die in six days. They are born with all of the nutrition that they'll ever need in that time. To that end, they have no mouth or digestive system to even process food.
Behaviour
Furylings attack, choke, sting, maim and kill. Even just protecting the herd is a second consideration to killing the herd's enemies. They have no sense of self preservation, they cannot feel pain and even their mentality is underdeveloped even lower than most vermin. They have one prerogative and that is to kill things.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
The Hopewell Aspirants keep their herds in strategic places outside of their fort so that if they are attacked in force, the enemy will have to deal with swarms of Furylings before ever fighting a human.
When a Furyling dies, it leaves behind a decently sized pearl. These are fairly rare, and therefore extremely valuable.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
They have rudimentary vision, able to see only infrared and ultraviolet with very little in the middle. Furylings have the Apiony sense of smell, however, and can pinpoint victims by their scent as well as any full sighted being. This also means that they are sensitive to the nearby Apionies' scent and experiences. If a being has been marked by an Apiony's acid sting, that being is a high priority and will be targeted first by any and all Furylings in the area.
Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms
Furylings are basically a weapon wielded by an Apiony herd.
