Wardstone
"Wardstone gives me hope. It gives me hope that one day when humanity gets its collective ass in gear and marches against the wizards, they won't be able to just erase us all with a wave of their hands."
~Witchfinder General Kill-Sin of The College of Questions
Properties
Material Characteristics
Wardstone resembles black or white marble. In either case, there are always veins of the opposite color streaking through. These veins visibly pulse. The stones are usually polished smooth and sometimes reinforced with metal cages.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Wardstone disrupts ambient magic. Casting spells near it is difficult. A building which properly incorporates wardstone is a low magic area, and many defensive structures do so.
It is even known to resist or even completely nullify dragons' breath.
Compounds
Wardstone is made from limestone powder, violet carc, and ectoplasm.
Origin & Source
The creation and use of wardstone is a closely held secret of the Stonecutters Society, and it is believed that one must attain the Bedrock Layer to learn the secret.
History & Usage
History
The secret to creating and using wardstone was brought from Shelor by the Stonecutters Society. It's provenance before that is unknown.
Everyday use
Wardstone is most often found incorporated into defensive structures. It creates a slight physical weakness in the defenses in exchange for greater magical protections.
Distribution
Law & Regulation
The Stonecutters Society jealously guards the secret of wardstone, and will send assassins against any known threat to that secret.
