Hobgoblins attack Lake Hope, but are rebuffed and forced into the Barrier Mountains where they begin a war of genocide against the dwarves.

The hobgoblins arrive in the badlands, attacking and burning everything in vast hordes. Human militias beat them into the vast caverns beneath the Bulwarks, initiating the Goblin Wars between the dwarves and the goblins. Humans provide support, but find tunnel fighting to be difficult and costly, and are forced to withdraw. Elves send several contingents into the tunnels, none of which ever emerge.
