The Battle of Blackchurch was an opportunistic raid against the wight lord Farkerik and a 3000+ strong splinter of the Gray Tide. Knight-Commander Sontaron of Krezzym led a flight of hussars on a scouting mission to get a count of the enemy and plot their positions for planning the upcoming campaign. While most of the Gray Tide was in a seething mass shambling towards Victer, a splinter group was building a necropolis around Blackchurch, the burned out shell of a Demiurge Cathedral. Seeing an opportunity to strike a blow, Sontaron commanded the griffon knights to begin assaulting the edges of the mob, swooping down and skimming swathes of heads at a pass. Unable to formulate a proper response, Farkerik pulled his command corps of wights into the ruined church itself. After almost an hour of this divebombing, Sontaron and eight of his knights landed at the steps of the ruin and assaulted the doors. In a few minutes, they were in and they lay about themselves with their greatswords. Sontaron slew Farkerik after a brief duel and the wight’s second in command, Zaugur, took over and decided to flee with what forces they had left. 722 wights and 366 zombies escaped into the fens, chased only briefly by the exhausted knights. The Gray Tide had lost around 2500 wights and zombies. The hussars had not lost a man, and only one griffon had suffered serious injuries, only to later recover. Zaugur reorganized the dregs of his force into a partisan company.
