Shonova

The Province of Dreams

"When I happened upon this small province, I was not expecting it to look so radically different from it's neighbor. As I entered the dark and dreary province the sun began to set, despite it being midday. I felt terribly sleepy while inside, perhaps I should rest for a bit."
— Anonymous Borderless Journal

Government & Culture

Shonova is a province based on sleep and dreams. They worship Massenet the Dreamer, the divine of sleep, which in turn has granted the people of this province the ability to Dream Walk, which allows people to eanter each others dreams and traverse them through lucid dreaming.   Shovonans tend not to leave the house much unless its for work or shopping, and those who do roam around are noticibly sluggish and tired. Most prefer to hang out with friends and family in the dream world.   Shonova does not have a night or day, so time is told based on where the sun is on a compass. There also arent desginated waking and sleeping hours, and residents will work or sleep at any hour of the day.

History

Centeries ago a borderless, and the first Dream Walker came to the province to speak of how Massenet had granted him the ability to walk inside peoples dreams and cure them of their mental and emotional traumas. He opened up a church for the divine in the capital city, where he would practice dream walking on citizens, who afterward claimed to have been cured of their depression, insomnia, anxiety, abd even more serious disorders like PTSD or schizophrenia.   Later more people came to the church wishing to be taught the same skill. The church grew larger and larger until a majority of the province actively worshipped Massenet and practiced dream walking.   Massenet found this province charming and granted the entire province the ability to dream walk, which also plunged the province into an eternal twilight state.   After this, Shonovans would sleep and use the dream world more often to communicate with others, or just have some fun.   In 967AB, the small town of Kotter would fall under a permanent sleep spell the residents couldn't wake from.

Architecture

Gothic style, victorian era cottages and homes are popular in Shonova. Buildings are typically built from stone and the dark wood of the surrounding trees.

Geography

Shonova is located on a southern peninsula of Tiqavan. Off it's cost are a cluster of islands that also fall in it's borders. The land consists of dark, gnarly trees and firs and the entire region is consistently in a never changing state of twilight. and instead the sun rotates around the horizon. This is believed to just be an effect of the dream magic that permeates through the whole province and not an actual astrological anomaly.
