Session 30: Make the Laughing Stop!
General Summary
The party finishes off the remaining mannequins and bone demons and investigates the various items dropped, including a coin with a dark rune on it, an atomically sharp crystal, and green blob that adheres itself to Silas’s hand. With the blob covered hand, Silas picks up the coin and shard with ease, the coin revealing a staircase that Anya senses is the correct way to go.
Traveling the staircase, Sikander and Silas are quite taken with the craftsmanship, noting its gnomish handy work and the various surfaces covered in niter. Investigating the room below, Offa finds an altar to Dred Garlu, and asks Sikander to take a closer look around as this is not the expected place to find the dark god. It seems to have been transplanted from the Underdark and has alternating black and white tiles with gems set in the middle of each one. (Sikander digs a ruby out of the floor and the stone effigy makes a noise). Offa also spots the same message as found before, “Therein lies the passage of those who would eat hope”.
Anya’s tattoo is solid black, prompting her to scan the room for undead danger. As she does, Offa (mask still on) is speaking to the stone Dred Garlu and is being shown the way onward. When Anya sees this, she is suddenly wreathed in black and purple, and rises from the ground, clearly possessed.
Sense begins to panic and tells Silas they need to leave – NOW – and that meant leaving Anya as well. Dred Garlu demands (through Anya) that a sacrifice is required of the party, and it must be a living sacrifice of blood, and that they have no idea how close destruction is.
Once Anya comes to, with no memory of being possessed, they fill her in. She becomes more wary of Offa and his god, telling him that she will not hesitate to deal with another undead or dark deity as she has already faced such things before. Moving on, Silas and Anya disarm the fire breathing traps and they all come to a steel portcullis. Sikander slowly lifts the ancient door, allowing everyone to enter and they come face to face with a massive Boneclaw, along with the faint laughing of a girl from the other room.
Anya uses her driftglobe to negate the Boneclaw’s abilities but is incapacitated and left laughing maniacally along with the creepy doll. Sikander, Silas, and Offa deal with the creepy doll and the Boneclaw (Tal lending his assistance whenever possible) until the creature falls. More bone like creatures appear, and Anya is knocked unconscious. (Silas and Anya had the charisma lowered because of the doll’s influence).
Offa destroys items on the altar and causes the magic circle to disappear, while Silas and Sikander tag team the bone collective monsters and rush to heal Anya, who appears to be fading.
