The Cherry Blossom Society
The Cherry Blossom society is a cunning and powerful military and political organization from the Isles of Yamato . It exists to undermine and ultimately conquer "The Great Cities" of the Sword Coast, starting with Waterdeep. Much of its power and wealth come from Dust production and distribution, but it is involved in many enterprises, many legitimate, most nefarious.
In Yamatogo, the Yamato language, it is called 桜暴力団 (sakura boryokudan or "Cherry Blossom Underworld Organization). Most Yamatoji refuse to name it outloud, and refer to the organization as あの人たち (ano hitotachi or "Those Men") or sometimes 呪詛 (juzo or "The Curse").

In translating the Cherry Blossoms into “Yamatogo”, I’ve purposely avoided using the actual Japanese for the real world Society which is Sakurakai. I thought it best to distance the imaginary secret criminal society from an ultra-right wing nationalist group. The Japanese really do tend to avoid speaking of the Yakuza out loud. I’m not sure that this has as much to do with fear as with disdain. From what I understand,the Japanese tend to disrespect the Yakuza in real life, though like Westerners, they are interested in romanticized accounts of their exploits.
