Overview
Gavín is an explorer employed by the University of
Hulwar in the department of "Archaeology & Recreation". He is one of nearly twohundred researcher in Koria dedicated to the past of every species & kingdom out there. Right now he is on the hunt for some human artifacts, left behind by the
Longardir.
Carrier
The carrier of Gavín started very uncommon. He broke into the University, and got so excited over the artifacts and the tomes that he dosed off only to get caught by the University's master. He got a punishment and was later accepted as a student into the halls of the University.
His time as a student was not as quite as one might imagine. He had to work hard for his studies and even work harder for his tuition. The few coins his mother gives him from time to time are only of little help. But he could afford a set of digging tools and some diamond tipped engraving tools. Even brushes for his archaeology class.
After a time the teachers discovered his knack for languages and his sense for artefacts and history. He was elected into the library, but he got bored very quickly. He noticed that there were scholars which were out in the wild and he begged the headmaster for a chance to help them.
He got the chance after a few months of probation. He had to do tests, written and spoken, and got very good grades. Not the best grades, but sufficient enough to be the apprentice of one of the wandering scholars.
Gavín learned a lot. Even what to do when they were getting robbed and, if possible, to defend himself. He was more interested - and invested - into the search for artefacts and ruins. He tried with the
Spiral first, but as he was no
Mortal God, he wasn't allowed inside the Black Fortress or the Spiral itself. He tried to search the ruins of
Ganguk, but besides the rotting port he didn't found anything of interest.
In one of the northern kingdoms he didn't found what he was looking for, but he found something what he needed: a tome of the kingdoms bloodline and heirs. Not that the kingdom itself was of interest, but the mention of the House of
Longardir.
With the help of his teacher and a few good words he got his own small carriage and was sent off to search and discover after getting the rank of a Travelling Scholar on probation.
Old maps and tome spoke of the House of
Longardir and so he travelled south, crossed the seas and was in awe with the remains of the Ruby Fortress, the first defense of the kingdom of Longardir.
Not long after Gavín entered the palace. It was well protected by old runes he couldn't read, but sense their authority and their gruesomeness. He wrote them all down to decipher them later, at a more welcoming place like a campfire. He could enter the mainhall and the throne room with both thrones without hinderance and even the dungeons, but he couldn't bear to enter other rooms, the runes were too strong.
In the basement he found a huge iron door, inscribed with runes, older than the tomes he found. No rust on them, only runes and some pictures he couldn't make sense of it.

Those pictures were the description for the mating and labour rituals.
He left the palace, shuddering and drenched with sweat. In one of the stone stables he discovered a thing he didn't expect: three
Sunfire Moths hovering on the spot, illuminating the stable.
With utmost care he catched the smallest of the three in a glass and left the kingdom as fast as his horse could tow the carriage.
The Scholars at the University were stirred to the bone. The Sunfire Moth was declared extinct hundreds of years ago. They were so excited, that one of them shattered the glass by accident, hurting the moth, which was not amused and burned two of the nearby scholars to two well-done steaks.
Gavín - as it wasn't his fault - was given a small amount of gold, some workers and two other scholars (his friends, but that wasn't on purpose. Maybe.) so he could go back to the House of Longardir, researching whatever the royal bloodline deemed to protect.
Gavín is now on his way to the Ruby Fortress. He was eager to know what was laying behind the Iron Door, as he called them for himself. Gruesome runes or not, the Longardir vanished long ago, they couldn't harm him.
Or could they?
Goals
His only goal is to find more artefacts and history lost to time. He is equipped well enough for that. So to say, the way is the goal.
I bet the Longardir still can harm him and his team, or better theire lingering will, or what ever was bound by their blood. Again a nice article about an interresting charackter!
