Nadho

The Nadho (NA-tho) are a significant orc tribe, numbering around 300,000 individuals. There are roughly 2,000 communities of Nadho. Some live in settlements, while others live a nomadic existence.

Naming Traditions

Unisex names

The Nadho have no masculine or feminine names. There are simply names.

Family names

The Nadho do not have family names in the traditional sense. Their warbands have a name, and each clan has a name. Within the clan, when differentiation is required between individuals, patronymics (or, occasionally, matronymics) are used. For example, an individual named Thîthe from the Standing Spear tribe whose clan is the Red Fox clan and whose father is Nunur, would fully be addressed as, "Thîthe Red Fox, Son of Nunur, of the Standing Spear tribe."

Culture and cultural heritage

The Nadho were originally a fully nomadic people. When the Calpian Empire began to rise, they sent their legions out to fight the Nadho. The Nadho weren't able to defeat the Calpians, but neither could the Empire defeat them.

In the end, a truce was struck. The Nadho remained free, so long as they only fought on the side of the Empire in war. They easily agreed to these terms. From this point on, some Nadho began to settle in semi-permanent, then eventually permanent settlements. Now, the tribe is on the verge of diverging into separate ethnicities, due to the very different cultures involved in settled versus nomadic lifestyles.

Shared customary codes and values

The Nadho worship these gods:

  • Dominance: Ûnûzhî
  • Courage: Krabvuthî
  • Wisdom: Na
  • Guilde: Nuzhro
  • Disease: Nakyn
  • Death: Robvî

Art & Architecture

Nadho art is primarily focused on clay disks called unonur̂inu with intricate sculptures. Most unonur̂inu are two to three inches in diameter and worn on a thong hanging around the neck, though some are much smaller or even several feet across.

Unonurînu are never painted. The themes range from complex geometric designs to figures from mythology, to beasts or plants.
