Obsidius

Obsidius is unspeakable. It is infinite and it is nowhere, ever-changing and perpetual. There are more things in the endless black void of Obsidius than are dreamt of in your natural philosophy. - Jormund Whitehand, Steward of Knowledge (Temple of Ioun)   Obsidius is an alternate dimension that "hungers for all" the Interloper being its current divine inhabitant. It consists of a series of floating islands in an organic and chaotic state, which contain uncanny representations of real world locales held in suspended animation.   While the purpose of Obsidius is not entirely clear, according to long-time researcher of Obsidius, Jormund Whitehand, "Obsidius sometimes has a divine entity, and sometimes does not. Some last for thousands of years. Sometimes the gap between them lasts as long. Each takes on the attributes of the time or process that made [them]." However, it is unknown what other divinities have existed in Obsidius and how they were destroyed. These beings can be unmade in many ways, including by fading, abdicating, deicide, being accidentally destroyed, and being reclaimed by Obsidius. Despite this, "it's possible that somewhere people are still worshiping a prior Obsidius divinity.”   There exist cults of devotees on the fringes of society who worship Obsidius. Many scholars believe that at some point, many years ago, on the edges of the Obsidius, the Outsider was made in a ritual by cultists who saw signs of his representational capacity. When his mortal life was brought to an end, he was "merged in part with Obsidius" and reborn a god. The site of his transfiguration remains intact and serves as a vault of power, which others are able to harness.

Geography

Obsidius exists as seemingly endless floating islands in an open expanse of darkness. The islands often represent locations in Korrisia, and also have features, structures, and even individuals from the Prime Material.   It is said that many who have died in the represented locations wander the plane, with shattered remnants of their memories and personalities. It is possible to communicate with these shades, but they do not often remember much. Jormundar Whitehand believes that discordant spirits find themselves in Obsidius and drift there for a very long time until they are devoured. Those that become peaceful are rewarded with non-existence.

Voidglass, a seemingly unbreakable and unstable material that is said to be fashioned into weapons that can kill even a god. These weapons have only been depicted in art, fictional tales, and mythology. Voidglass is also said to be something that binds with the user, and becomes a part of them.
