Order of Akarat
The Order of Akarat is one of the oldest Knightly Orders in Korrisia. Originally founded in 708 during the Age of Troubles, by a Monk named Askiral. The order was founded originally as one to combat the darkness with light, and utilize the powers of divinity and religion against the dark evils that attempted to corrupt and destroy Garenthar's noble creations.
Askiral's order became quickly quite large and powerful, and after his death, the lieutenants vied for power to become Grandmaster. The Order quickly changed from one of honor and nobility to a corrupt and power-mongering faction, that sought to dig its influence into all levels of all kingdoms. The Order nearly fell, and brought the Republic of Calemdar with it until a junior knight name Arkus, one who many believed to be the reincarnation of Askiral, purged the group of the most corrupt and evil members, returning it to a small noble group of heroes who wished to keep the world safe.
After Grandmaster Arkus' death, the remaining members vowed to keep to his tenants, and the reformed tenants of the Order. After Arkus, Grandmaster Talus the Bold was named head of the Order, and one of his first acts was to move the headquarters of the Order of Akarat to Ashglade City in Arcania.
Tenants of the Order
- The Light exists in everyone, regardless of race, religion, or social status (the most basic tenet of the faith).
- Embrace the Light with total devotion.
- Trust in the glory of the Light, for its authority supersedes all power in the mortal world.
- Resist all things evil.
Structure
Grandmaster - Leader of the Order, has full and total control over all decisions and actions. Elected by Knight Commanders at "The Seating" and serves until death or resignation.
Knight Commander - There are four Knight Commanders that each have a central location of operations in the major cities or kingdoms of Korrisia. There has been talk of creating a Fifth Knight Commander for Alithanar, but it has not been confirmed. Knight Commanders may choose Initiates to become Knights or follow the Path of the Scholar. Knight Commanders answer directly to the Grandmaster, and have complete control over their realms.
Knight - Full-blooded member of the Order. As an Initiate, they must prove their faithfulness to the Order and to the Prime Deities by redeeming a being of evil to the light. For many, this is the most arduous task, and many Initiates have fallen whilst trying to redeem evildoers.
Scholar - For those that do not follow the more militant path of the Knights, Scholars are the Cleric members of the Order of Akarat. Instead of working to redeem and sometimes battle evil, Scholars are seen more so as healers and advisors.
Initiate - A new member to the Order of Akarat who has completed their basic trainings at one of the Halls of Akarat, under direct supervision of the Knight Commander. It's at this stage Initiates choose whether to follow the path of the Knight or the path of the Scholar.
Fellow - A brand new member who has not completed their training. Fellows cannot yet act as a member of the Order on their own, they must be supervised by a Knight or higher. Fellows must also spend several months/years at a Hall of Akarat and complete their training to become Initiates. Process of becoming an Initiate is to show your Knight Commander that you are proficient in all areas required of the trainings.
