Era beginning/end
The greatest empire Korrisia ever knew surrounded on all sides by darkness. One side, the forces of Imrys, the other, the agents of Vecna. The First Emperor sought to protect his people, and commanded his most powerful wizard Myrddin to protect the City of Eldor.
Imrys, the Darkheart had come into his full power, transferring all of his energy into the new body of a Dracolich, using stolen powers and methods from the Archlich Vecna, he established himself as Vecna's newest archnemesis. Vecna and his General, Kas, sought to destroy Imrys and to take all of the power and knowledge of Eldor for themselves. Their battle would come to a climax at the city walls of Eldor itself. Their armies clashing outside the gates, while both forces' broke down the gates. Myrddin, the most powerful and capable wizard in the history of Korrisia, knew he had to defend his people at all costs. The First Emperor, whose name is lost to the ages commanded that Myrddin utilize the entire array of his powers to do so. Myrddin cast a dangerous and world-shaking ritual, the entire city of Eldor, a city that held an estimated 2 million souls, was lifted and teleported from the Prime Material plane into the Astral Plane. Eldor stood for many years until both Imrys and Vecna had found them once more. Vecna had gathered enough power to eventually attempt the most powerful and dangerous spell known, Karsus' Avatar. With this spell, Vecna would replace a deity of his choosing, and he had the perfect candidate in mind, Ioun. In the last moments of the ritual, Kas, the Bloody-Handed, realizing what would happen to all life should Vecna achieve his goals, lashed out at his mentor, his friend, his brother. The battle was vicious and immensely destructive. Vecna's tower, that he moved to the Astral Plane had been shattered, the ritual backfired and obliterated all traces of the tower. Vecna was banished to the Domains of Dread, and Kas' physical form was vaporized. With Vecna's forces out of the way, Imrys focused his full power on the city of Eldor, with enemies at the gates of the Imperial Palace, the First Emperor made his final decree. Myrddin, with his last bits of power created two items. The first was a stone that would hold all of his knowledge and essence, so that he could return (in a manner of speaking) to ensure the city is protected, the second was a ring that held the most powerful editions of the spell Wish. With his final words, the First Emperor spoke his intentions, and within seconds, the entire city died. Everything was wiped away, all citizens, their souls, their essence. The city became a black husk, floating in the endless sea of the Astral Plane, nothing but a charred corpse. With such a world-shattering event, the Prime Deities descended on Imrys, and Gond himself challenged the Dracolich to combat. Gond faced his foe and defeated him in single combat, forever banishing and locking him away behind the Veil in the First Temple of Gond. Myrddin's essence was the only thing that remained. When he reformed in his new state, he found a nearly destroyed bit of soul, and restored what was left to physical form. Kas the Betrayer returned to life, and spend hundreds of years with Myrddin, learning the ways of magic, the ways of love, life, and goodness. Myrddin taught Kas to create a sarcophogus for himself that would allow him to slumber for as long as needed, before he would be reawakened to continue his fight against the evil that was his former brother-in-arms, Vecna.
