House Iroa (eer-oh-ah)

House Iroa is situated in the city of Iroa on the northern coast of Asinisos. It is the primary trading point between the merchant houses and Vas, and fosters a culture of warriors and heroes that, if nothing else, serve as the merchant houses’ primary land-based army.   House Iroa is led by Iros, the triton from whom both the city and house gained their name. Iros is a braggart, a drunk, a philanderer, and a frustratingly successful warrior. He gained his fame from slaying a Dragon Turtle plaguing the Thalan Straight before using its hoard to make his push as a Dimarchos of Asinisos. During the war, Iros took a small cadre of warriors and—without informing his fellow Dimarchos—fought the forces of the Great Wildfire. Reports of his feats are borderline mythical, though even the most skeptical reports indicate Iros to be a surprisingly effective warrior and tactician.   Iroa prides itself on being a hero’s paradise: physical strength and beauty are highly valued, as are stories of one’s feats. Verifiably stories of heroism grant the hero the patronage of Iros, while falsehoods are met with execution or banishment. Though its northern neighbor does not mint its own coin, Iroa does trade in goods with the polis, with much of their “liberated” coin finding its way into House Iroa’s purses. Iroa selectively plucks what it likes from Vassic culture, while blatantly ignoring its distaste for coin and excessive wealth.
